A meeting-room adapter with a useful power distinction

The 100W label describes charging pass-through input. StarTech allocates up to 12W to the adapter, leaving up to 88W for the laptop. Bringing a 100W charger therefore does not make it a 100W laptop dock. With a smaller supply, the remaining budget shrinks further, which can matter on a notebook that is particular about its charging profile.

The multifunction USB-C accessory connection serves data or power input. Plan around that shared role if you want to attach USB-C storage while also charging. Two USB-A data connections remain useful for a presentation remote, mouse or older flash drive.

Choose the display mode you will actually use

HDMI reaches 3840 × 2160 at 30Hz, while the official table also lists 3440 × 1440 at 60Hz. A 4K television in a meeting room and an ultrawide desk monitor therefore create different expectations. The host must supply DisplayPort Alt Mode; a data-only USB-C socket cannot create the video signal.

An SD slot provides direct access to full-size cards. MicroSD requires a separate card adapter, so photographers and handheld-device users should check what is already in their bag. Gigabit Ethernet is convenient at hotels or offices with a usable wired connection. This is a one-monitor mobile accessory; buying it to anchor a permanent multi-monitor workstation would add adapters and complexity beyond its intended strengths.
