Consider it for
- A supported Thunderbolt or USB4 workstation using fast network storage
- Users with many permanently connected data peripherals
Check before buying
- Not compatible with USB-C-only hosts or Windows Thunderbolt 3 PCs
- 10Gb networking requires compatible infrastructure to deliver its benefit
Verify the computer before designing the desk
CalDigit excludes USB-C-only 5Gbps or 10Gbps hosts and Windows Thunderbolt 3 computers from this model. Compatible Thunderbolt and USB4 connections still provide different capability levels. A physically matching connector does not make the Plus a safe replacement for a universal USB dock.
Check the exact configuration and included power supply.
Check on AmazonNetworking upgrades extend beyond the dock
A 10Gb port cannot make a slower router, switch, or NAS transfer at 10Gbps. Inventory the network path first. If the rest of that path is 1Gbps and will remain so, the networking premium is unlikely to solve a current problem.
Build the display plan separately from the data plan
The dock combines Thunderbolt 5 connectivity with a full-size DisplayPort output, 140W host charging, and a broad USB selection. Screen count and resolution remain host-specific. Consult the manufacturer’s current matrix, including operating-system requirements, rather than treating the largest supported configuration as universal. For a creator or developer, the useful comparison is whether this port mix removes adapters and contention in the actual workflow.
