HP Docking Stations: USB-C G6 and Thunderbolt Options

The two verified HP G6 docks solve different desk problems. The USB-C 100W G6 uses a video-capable USB-C host connection, supplies up to 100W and exposes two DisplayPort outputs plus HDMI. The Thunderbolt 4 Ultra 180W G6 adds a 40Gbps Thunderbolt path, a larger peripheral layout and up to 180W only when the computer supports Power Delivery 3.1. Its 230W adapter powers the whole dock; it does not send 230W to the laptop.

Choose the 100W model for a mainstream compatible office laptop when three display sockets, 2.5Gb Ethernet and 100W are enough. Consider the Ultra for a supported high-power notebook, a denser wired workstation or a display arrangement that genuinely needs its extra capability. HP lists several operating systems, but the maximum screen count, power button, wake, MAC-address pass-through and Quick Connect features remain host-specific.

Confirm the exact part and included equipment before ordering. The official USB-C model is 9X3V1UT and normally includes a 120W adapter and 1m cable; the Ultra is 9X481UT#ABA with a 230W adapter and 1m Thunderbolt 4 cable. Marketplace bundles can add a cable without changing the underlying dock, while a similarly named earlier G5 is a different product.

Choosing within HP

USB-C 100W G6: 12.1 × 12.1 × 5.1cm, 680g, 120W adapter and up to 100W to a compatible host.
Thunderbolt 4 Ultra 180W G6: 4.76 × 4.76 × 1.95in, 1.7lb, 230W adapter and up to 180W only with compatible PD 3.1 negotiation.
The USB-C model’s three-display ceiling and the Ultra’s four-display ceiling are conditional maximums, not promises for every HP, Windows or Mac computer.
A listed operating system establishes software support, not every enterprise feature; verify the exact laptop against HP’s compatibility information.
Treat extra marketplace cables as bundle contents and compare the exact model or part number rather than transferring specifications from a G5 or another G6 variant.
