Consider it for
- A single HDMI presentation or reference screen
- A small travel kit with USB-A peripherals
Check before buying
- 4K output limited to 30Hz
- No Ethernet or card reader; charger required for host power
Is 4K30 the right compromise?
The HDMI output is specified at up to 3840 × 2160 at 30Hz. That can be acceptable for a presentation or occasional static reference screen, but a buyer expecting the feel of a 60Hz desktop should choose a model explicitly supporting that mode. A 4K monitor accepting the signal does not make the refresh rate equivalent.
Check the exact configuration and included power supply.
Check on AmazonThe USB-C sockets have separate roles
One USB-C port accepts the power supply; another transfers data at up to 5Gbps. Two USB-A data ports handle existing peripherals. Plan which device goes where before assuming the charging input can be used as another data connection. There is no built-in Ethernet or card reader.
A small hub still needs a complete power plan
The maximum laptop charging figure is 85W from a suitable 100W PD supply. If you carry only the hub and leave the charger at home, you have not packed a powered docking station. The sensible use case is a modest one-screen arrangement where the selected laptop port already supports video and the remaining peripheral list fits within the available sockets.
