A smaller dock for an established pair of screens

If your monitor arrangement already consists of a 4K main screen and a 1080p secondary screen, the JCD381 is easier to evaluate than a dock covered in unused sockets. The manufacturer rates its outputs differently: one can reach 4K at 30Hz, the other 2K or 1080p at 60Hz. It should not be bought as an interchangeable pair of 4K60 outputs.

Two USB-A data ports are enough for a keyboard and mouse, but count a webcam or external drive before deciding that two is sufficient. The built-in Gigabit Ethernet connection is useful at a fixed desk even when the dock itself travels.

Software and charging deserve a separate check

This is a driver-dependent USB graphics product. j5create lists Windows and macOS support with driver installation, which matters if a company blocks software changes. Do not infer that a USB-C connector means this behaves like a simple driverless HDMI cable.

Power Delivery is rated up to 60W through an attached supply. That ceiling makes checking the laptop’s charging requirement especially worthwhile; a more demanding machine may still need its own adapter. The compact size is attractive only if it removes gear from the bag. If you must carry another hub, more display adapters and a second charger, a larger dock with the right connections may be the tidier choice.
